Hey Barb, neat review. I love remembering you talking about jogging in the early '80s. You talked about how you'd run like the wind when the right song came onto your Walkman. And the Turkey Trots starting at the Shoup's on Thanksgiving morning were so great, I'd always think, this is the funnest thing I've ever done, what with the Blessing of the Shoes and the doughnuts and generic cigarettes served up on lovely trays.
Great post, Barb. Growing up, I was never athletic, so no one was more surprised to have daughters who were runners than me. There is definitely a culture among runners and it has been interesting to learn about it from the outside looking in. Think I'll get this book for my daughters.
I may have to read this one. Like you, I am too old to have been involved in team sports in my youth, but I experienced them through my three kids, the youngest a daughter! I also took up running in my mid-fifties. My husband and three kids said I was able to do it because I had not beaten up my knees, etc…earlier in my life. Did many shorter races, a handful of minis, and finished (note I did not say ran) two full marathons. Thanks for the great post and recommendation.
I must add this to my list! Love the connections to your own life--I can relate. I have been wondering what my life would have been like if I'd played some sort of sport in high school! Too shy by far!
Loved this review, Barb... I was drawn in by the title since I was a runner for so many years. Not on a team though! So relatable in many other ways. Makes me want to read the book, and makes me miss talking about writing (and so much more) with you!
Thanks. And, yeah! The Turkey Trot! Those were the days. Also--HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY. Not sure how it got past me. Hope you had a fabulous day.

I think they'd love it.

Wow! Marathons! Walking OR running, that's amazing.

Thanks. Miss you, too. Let's talk soon.

Like yourself:-)
Team sports, the best! Something girls get now but we didn't. Unless you're a thousand year old basketball player.
