Kinflicks is on my list of books that have made me laugh out loud. (Huckleberry Finn, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead, etc) I remember reading it on a Chicago city bus back when it came out. I was apparently yucking it up so much that a guy who got off at my stop approached me to what I joy it was to see someone who'd so freely expressed their feelings. He was quite blown away. It could have been one of the great meet-cute stories of my life, but at the time I was so embarrassed, I just deferred and got out of there. I vaguely remembered he was cute, too. Ah well... Anyway, LOVED the book. Your example may have been one of the laugh lines.
