I would read almost anything from the point of view of a magpie! There's a group of them living close by that playact all the time on the roof across the street
Now, *there"s* an unusual narrative voice--you're right to wonder how on earth the premise came to the author! I can see how that dark & twisty humor is compelling, though. (Those particular songs at inopportune moments? Hilarious.) Thank you for bringing so many new and interesting books to my attention. Grateful to you!
This one sounds great. I personally think the talking magpie sounds like fun, perhaps mostly because he seems to swear like a sailor. Thanks for another good book rec., Barb.
You're welcome. I realized I'd read and loved another book of hers, too--Remote Sympathy. Also very interesting premise. Why is it that we don't hear more about wonderful writers like this when so many mediocre ones get so much attention?
I had never heard of this writer before. She’s probably really well-known in New Zealand and even around the world. I just somehow missed her. The book sounds fascinating and of course I love magpies! Thank you for putting it on my radar!

This sounds so good and original and also, I love the magpie photos (and "magpie" is a great word!)

Jeepers! Thanks1
Wow. My admiration for you has skyrocketed. I could possibly read this book, but I could never review it the way you did.
He's hilarious!
